The first of 2 outdoor classes aimed at teaching skills for successful outings in our suburban environment. This is a 7-week class that includes a 2-hour no-dogs allowed orientation to marker training and basic R+ skills.
- Orientation to marker/clicker training/up down pattern game/equipment
- Mat work - gives your dog a safe place to relax
- Loose-Leash Walking and get out of dodge strategies
- Playing tug outdoors
- Head turns to name game - the whiplash head turn - pattern game
- Re-orienting points and "wait!"
- Polite greetings and parking the dog
- Take a break - the beginnings of using the Premack Principle (one highly probable behavior reinforcing another)
- Slide feeding, desensitization and counter conditioning
- Hand targeting - teach your dog how to engage with the public
Pre-requisite: Basic foundation training. Dogs should have working knowledge of sit, down, and basic loose-leash walking. This is not a class for reactive dogs or dogs that have any bite history. All dogs must be properly vaccinated.
